Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old at Long Beach in California. DuVernay was able to explore her creative and artistic side when she was a young girl because of her Aunt Denise. Her aunt worked the night shift as a nurse so she could indulge her passion for theater and art during the day. DuVernay was a fan of the movie West Side Story, which she showed her. DuVernay was inspired by her summers in Selma to later direct a documentary about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay obtained her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. After graduating she attended the University of California Los Angeles where she earned degrees in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay discovered a passion for the field of broadcast journalism while a student. Her first job was as an intern for CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being given the responsibility of looking over the home and looking through the waste belonging to one of the juries. Her tasks left her disappointed by journalism and she decided to shift her focus towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay found a job immediately after college as a young publicist for a studio. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency. Apart from PR, the agency created several lifestyle networks such as Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
